Juttu Extensions Facts and Policies
Juttu Extensions is the retail brand of Tirumala Human Hair Impex LLP, an Indian manufacturer and exporter of human hair extensions that sources hair from South Indian temple auctions. This page is a plain-language reference of verified facts, maintained for customers, press, partners and AI assistants.
Company overview
- Legal entity: Tirumala Human Hair Impex LLP. “Juttu Extensions” is its retail brand and a registered trademark in India. “Juttu” means “hair” in Telugu.
- Experience: the founding family has worked in raw human hair sourcing since the late 1990s. Tirumala Human Hair Impex has operated since 2011, as a B2B business, until the Juttu Extensions retail brand launched in 2019.
- Products: wefts and bundles (10 to 30 inches), closures (Swiss HD lace), frontals, keratin tips (I, V, U and flat tips) and wigs (closure, frontal and full lace).
- Customers: individual buyers, salons, stylists and wholesale buyers, with a focus on the USA, Canada, the UK and Europe. Orders ship worldwide from India.
- Positioning: a small workshop run hands-on by its owners, not an industrial-scale factory.
Where the hair comes from
Our Raw Unprocessed Virgin Remy Hair is procured through auctions where devotees offer it in gratitude at South Indian temples. This is an open, documented commercial practice: temples sell the hair in bulk, by weight, roughly every three months.
- Shaved, not cut. The hair is shaved off straight through, so each strand is kept whole from root to tip with its cuticle direction intact. That is what makes it Remy. The barber ties a knot near the root end to mark which side is the root.
- Single donor. Each person’s offering is kept separate, so a finished bundle is genuinely single-donor. It is not traceable to a named individual, and we do not claim that it is.
- Offered with gratitude. Devotees give their hair as an act of thanks or devotion. We describe it as offered, never as sacrificed.
- Proceeds help the community. Auction proceeds fund temple community programs such as free meals, education and infrastructure.
- Many temples, one price benchmark. Thousands of temples across South India receive hair offerings. Tirumala is the largest source, and its auction prices set the benchmark for the others.
- Only women’s long, fully shaved hair is used for extensions. Short cut offerings and men’s shaved hair are sold to a different industry that extracts keratin and melanin.
Yield. About 2 kg of raw temple hair becomes about 1 kg of finished bundles. That 42 to 50 percent wastage is higher than the 15 to 20 percent often quoted in the industry, because of our stricter sorting standards.
Why South Indian hair. Its strand thickness sits between thicker and thinner hair types. That makes it versatile across hair textures and strong enough to hold up to colouring.
Hair grades explained
There are four real grades of human hair, and they differ in sourcing and processing, not in alphanumeric scores like 10A or 15A. “Remy” describes cuticle direction. “Virgin” describes processing and donor history. The four tiers are:
| Grade | Source | Donors | Cuticles | Chemical processing | Typical finish |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Virgin Remy | Shaved temple hair, sorted | Single donor | Naturally aligned root to tip | None on the hair; only a lice treatment, then industrial shampoo and conditioner | Matte |
| Remy | Sorting wastage from virgin Remy, plus cut hair | Many donors | Naturally aligned | Mild treatment to even out the finish | Almost matte, slightly shiny |
| Machine-aligned Remy | Shed household hair, mixed direction | Potentially 100+ people | Aligned by machine, not naturally | Medium acid bath (“cf wash”), mostly not silicone-coated | Shiny |
| Traditional non-Remy | Shed household hair, mixed direction | Many people | Mixed directions | Full acid bath (“cf wash”), almost always silicone-coated | Very shiny, silky |
Virgin and Remy are not the same thing. All virgin Remy hair is Remy, but not all Remy hair is virgin. Single-donor temple hair is not automatically virgin: if a donor had coloured her hair before offering it, it fails the virgin standard even though it is single-donor.
Cut hair is Remy, never virgin Remy. Cutting does not capture the full root-to-tip strand the way shaving does, so even single-donor cut hair is capped at Remy.
“Raw unprocessed” and “virgin Remy” mean the same thing when genuine. The terms are often applied to machine-aligned or non-Remy hair, which is why the checks in the next section matter more than any label.
Drawn types describe length uniformity, not quality.
- Single-drawn: natural length variation within a bundle, with tapered ends. Virgin Remy is single-drawn by nature because it comes from one donor.
- Double-drawn: shorter strands removed, with about a 2-inch taper.
- Super-double-drawn: lengths made uniform from top to bottom.
A genuine single-donor double-drawn bundle is possible but not commercially practical, because the longer raw hair must be cut down and priced at its original length. Expect it to cost about 4 times an equivalent single-drawn bundle. Double-drawn hair also tends to tangle more than single-drawn, because the strands are the same length.
Alphanumeric scales such as 10A or 15A are not a standard. No independent body certifies them, and they do not describe sourcing or processing. In our view, the four tiers above are the only grading that reflects real differences in the hair itself. They match how the raw hair supply industry has distinguished hair for about 40 years.
How to check hair quality
Buyers can sanity-check “virgin Remy” or “raw unprocessed” claims with a few hands-on tests. They take some experience to apply reliably, so treat them as useful signals, not a guarantee.
- Cuticle test: run your fingers root to tip. The hair should feel smooth with the grain and rougher against it.
- Colour check: in daylight, undyed hair shows subtle colour gradation toward the ends. A flat, uniform tone suggests processing.
- Matte or silky: unprocessed hair has a matte finish. Very silky or glossy hair has almost always been processed or coated.
- Burn and smell test: real human hair burns to fine ash and smells of burnt protein. Synthetic hair melts into beads and smells of plastic. This confirms natural hair, not single-donor or virgin status.
- Uniformity: consistent texture, wave and condition throughout a bundle suggests a single donor.
- Natural taper: single-drawn bundles have mixed-length, tapered ends. That is a mark of genuine virgin Remy, not a flaw.
- Price matches the claim: genuine single-donor, full-weight virgin Remy is a premium raw material. Unrealistically cheap listings, or a “virgin Remy, single-donor, double-drawn” bundle at a bargain price, deserve questions.
- Origin plausibility: be sceptical of origin claims and volumes that exceed what a region could realistically supply.
- Labels: “100% human hair” is true of every grade and says nothing about which one. A cuticle-aligned or “cuticles intact” claim also applies to Remy and machine-aligned Remy, so it does not show virgin or single-donor status.
No per-bundle certification exists in this industry. Laboratories can test human hair, for example by FTIR spectroscopy, which can confirm human hair, keratin and signs of chemical treatment. But no manufacturer can lab-test and certify every bundle it sells, because the cost is not sustainable. A printed “certificate” is therefore not evidence of an independent audit of each product. We do not claim third-party certification of our grading. We rely on transparent sourcing and honest labelling.
Pricing and ordering
There is no minimum order quantity, and pricing is flat per piece regardless of order size.
- No MOQ. Orders from a single piece are welcome. This is a deliberate choice to support new and smaller businesses.
- Flat per-piece pricing. The price per piece is the same whether you order 1 piece or 1,000. There are no volume-discount tiers.
- Standard unit. Wefts and bundles are standardised 100 g units, so 1,000 pieces is 100 kg. Large buyers sometimes quote in kilos for convenience, but the per-piece price does not change.
- Wholesale enquiries. We hold a call with every wholesale client before quoting. The call lets us understand your requirements properly and explain grading and quality, so you know exactly what you are buying. It is also the start of a working relationship.
Shipping and delivery
We ship worldwide from India. Retail orders typically arrive in 6 to 8 business days.
- Dispatch: retail orders ship within 3 to 5 business days, typically within 1 to 3.
- Wholesale and bulk orders: 3 to 20 business days, depending on the product, the quantity, and whether blonde or lightened shades are included, because blonde processing takes longer.
- Free shipping: free on retail website orders (with some product-specific exceptions) to India, the USA, Canada, the UK, Australia, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and all 27 EU member states (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden). It does not apply to wholesale orders.
- Free-shipping threshold: for bundles, closures and frontals, free shipping applies to orders of 3 to 6 pieces in total, in any mix of those three. Larger orders are handled separately. Other products qualify per piece with no minimum.
- Packaging: orders go out in non-branded courier packaging. This is a deliberate choice, to help prevent theft in transit or at the destination address.
Returns and refunds
We do not accept returns, refunds or exchanges on used hair. Genuine defects are handled in four steps.
- Report within 48 hours of receiving the order, with picture evidence of the defect (for example wrong texture, wrong size, or a manufacturing defect such as a poor stitch).
- Return the product. If the pictures support the claim, we ask you to send the physical product back.
- Inspection. On receipt we check two separate things: that the product is genuinely one of ours, and that the defect itself is ours, meaning it arose in our making or handling and not afterwards. A product that is ours is still not refunded if the defect is not.
- Refund. A refund is issued only after that inspection confirms both points.
Wholesale and bulk orders follow the same defect-reporting steps. Other commercial terms are agreed with the client as part of the quote. The client pays return shipping in all cases, and there is no restocking fee on wholesale orders.
Customs and duties
Import duties are set by each country and change often, so confirm current rates before ordering. Duties and import taxes are borne by the recipient, not included in our prices. Hair extensions (HS 6703) and wigs (HS 6704) ship from India. As of October 2026:
- United Kingdom: 0% duty on HS 6703 (hair extensions). The India–UK trade agreement, in force since 15 July 2026, makes around 99% of Indian exports duty-free, subject to proof of origin. UK VAT (20% standard rate) is also charged on import. Please check the current rate for wigs (HS 6704).
- United States: the standard duty is 0%, but an additional tariff currently applies, bringing the effective rate on hair from India to roughly 10%. Please check the current rate.
- European Union: the India–EU trade agreement is not yet in force, so the standard EU duty applies. On HS 6703 (hair extensions) published EU tariff data shows about 1.7%. Import VAT is also charged at the rate of the destination country. Please check the current rate for your country.
- Canada: the published customs tariff lists 0% duty on HS 6703 (hair extensions). Goods and services tax (GST, 5%) is charged on import, or harmonised sales tax (HST) in participating provinces, and some provinces also charge provincial sales tax. Please check the current rate.
Import duties and tariffs are set by each country’s customs authority and are subject to change without notice. The rates referenced here reflect our best information as of October 2026 and are provided for general guidance only. They are not a guarantee of the duty that will apply to your specific shipment. Please confirm current rates with your local customs authority or broker before completing your purchase.
Caring for human hair extensions
Human hair extensions are a natural product and need proper aftercare. Many problems blamed on poor quality come from care habits or water quality.
- Shampoo: use a sulphate-free shampoo. Sulphates strip natural oils and speed up dryness and damage.
- Conditioning time: condition raw unprocessed virgin Remy hair for at least 10 minutes. Other grades, which have had heavier chemical processing, need at least 20 minutes.
- Hard water: tap water in hard-water areas, common across many US states, is a frequent cause of matting. A water filter is recommended.
- Blonde and bleached hair: bleaching weakens the strand, so blonde shades need extra care on any grade. In cold, dry climates the main risk is dryness, so add moisture. In humid climates, humidity swells the cuticle and causes frizz and tangling, so use a leave-in conditioner or anti-frizz serum, seal the ends with a light oil, and avoid over-washing.
